Today marks what may well be the last gathering of Pearl Harbor survivors. 7:55 this morning marked the 65th anniversary of the attack that marked the beginning of World War II involvement for the United States. I really hope that there will be a 70th anniversary meeting for the men, who gather every 5 years, but most members are in their 80s. I think we all ought to take a moment today to remember... Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to tell you we don’t celebrate Christmas. The reasons are too numerous to go into here. However, when my cousin sent me this Christmas message, I wanted to pass it along, so here it is: Dear children, It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. Maybe you’ve forgotten that I wasn’t actually... [Read more]
Graduate journalism students at prestigious Columbia University are upset after rumors circulated at the school and in the media that one or more members of a media ethics course cheated on an exam. Some are concerned that the scandal will taint their degree from Columbia– a degree which costs close to $100,000 to obtain. The professor of the course is giving a make-up question of sorts, dealing... [Read more]
Perhaps someone can explain to me WHY this happens… If you try this at home, let me know if it works. I’m planning to try it tomorrow. Read More →
As many of you with small children probably know, The Wiggles are down a man. Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, is leaving The Wiggles due to illness and will be replaced by Sam Moran. Greg is suffering from orthostatic intolerance, which causes dizziness, fatigue and nausea. Greg is a favorite Wiggle in our house and will be missed. Here’s hoping he makes a full recovery soon. I know my website recently has been a bit heavy on You Tube content, but really wouldn’t you rather watch one of these videos than listen to a lot of my drivel? I think this video is great to demonstrate that yes, Physics really does have real-world applications. If you’ve got a child who loves martial arts, as well– so much the better. Plus, it’s just plain cool to see... [Read more]

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is that my children get to be children. They don’t have to enter the ranks of teens at the age of 8. As you get older, it’s easy to look at today’s ten year olds and think, they act much older than ten year olds did in my day. It’s also easy to dismiss that and think that surely you must be imagining things. But in a recent... [Read more]
I hope everyone’s having a good Thanksgiving Weekend. I just wanted to take a moment to recommend a free homeschooling book about the humorous side of homeschooling. You can see the author’s YouTube preview below. It turns out there are quite a few interesting YouTube videos about or by homeschoolers. Read More →

This week’s question over at WAHM Blogger’s Network is about our blogging goals. I’ll be honest with you. At least 90% of the reason I blog is monetary. I’ve never been very good at journaling (you see from my lapses on this blog why), and I don’t know that I would really want to put a journal out on the web for everyone to read just because I felt like it. Now, for... [Read more]
The new wiki has been taking a lot of time and attention recently. That’s a good thing because it means we’re having a lot more participation and a lot of stuff being added. The down-side is that I haven’t been as good about eating, exercising, or writing things down. But today is a new day. I can either choose to let a few days’ lapse to derail me for the next 6 months,... [Read more]
Today has been one of those days where I hardly feel like I have time to eat. But even on those days, I’m assured, it’s in my best interest to eat to keep my metabolism from deciding to take a vacation. After all, I’m a woman approaching my mid-30s– my metabolism needs all the encouragement it can get I went to work out with my trainer last night. While I was doing some... [Read more]
